Meissen gorgeous pair of figurines: Malabarian lady and Malbarian man The details are stunningly sculptured = finest modelling. Design: Friedrich Elias Meyer (1751) F. E. Meyer has been engaged since year 1748 at Meissen manufactory. He moved to Royal Porcelain Manufactory (KPM) then (= in year 1761) - this one situated in Berlin. Made circa 1830-1840 Meissen Blue Sword Mark With Pommels On Hilts (bottom not glazed). These are models 1519 (Malabarian Lady) & 1523 (Malabrian Man): Model numbers aren't visible here. First quality Malabarian Lady And Malbarian Man There are the Malabarian Figurines based on round socle decorated with Rocaille ornaments. - The woman holds a hurdy-gurdy in both hands, further a casket in which birds have to be held is attached to woman's back. - The man plays a string instrument, being similar to a guitar / a chest is attached to man's back. The figurines - their heads are covered with special hat - are dressed in finest garments / both are clad in most elegant mantles decorated with stunningly painted flower patterns as well as trimmed with fur. During middle of 18th century - when these models were created by the Meissen modeller Friedrich Elias Meyer - the Malabar ethnic being domiciled in southwest area of Indian Subcontinent was only known by a few travelogues. - One the first moulds of this model was dedicated to Madame de Pompadour, the favourite of King Louis XV., for her porcelain chamber's furnishing at Versailles castle.
