Portuguese Earthenware Deep Plate in Pottery

About the Item

Portuguese earthenware, deep plate. Simple yet charming decoration, characteristic of popular productions from the mid-20th century. The beige background enhances the floral decoration that runs along the edge of the piece, made up of stylized flowers in vibrant shades of red, blue and yellow. The red flowers, with well-defined petals and a yellow center, alternate with flowering branches in intense blue, enriched with green details, creating a harmonious and cheerful pattern. A thin yellow stripe connects the floral elements, adding dynamism to the composition and highlighting the contrast between the colors. The outline of the plate is finished with a brown or reddish line, applied by hand, a common detail in the most popular Portuguese earthenware. The painting presents small imperfections typical of the artisanal technique, which gives the piece an additional charm. Portuguese earthenware from that period was widely used in everyday life, being produced in regional factories that sought to combine aesthetics and functionality. This type of decoration, with simple floral motifs and vibrant colors, reflects the influence of traditional Portuguese ceramics, marked by spontaneous and expressive decorative patterns. With clear signs of use and some patina of time, this plate exemplifies the durability and practical nature of Portuguese earthenware, being a representative piece of the utilitarian ceramics that decorated Portuguese tables in the last century. Chips and very worn.
