About the Item

Rare and gorgeously glazed, this 1924-vintage porcelain trivet by Rookwood Pottery depicts a pouter pigeon, its chest puffed up and its plumage in lovely shades of pink and plum. Rookwood produced a series of glazed trivets in the 1920s, though this example is rare and its glazes are especially vivid. Even more unusual, the tile retains its original box top, emblazoned with the Rookwood name and its tagline, "America's Gold Medal Pottery." Rookwood, based in Cincinnati, was the largest and most successful art pottery in America, producing artistic wares from the late 19th century into the 1950s.
