About

The upper area of the cylindrical white cup has a cobalt blue band with light blue medallions, which are leaf-shaped framed with gold and painted with leaf panicles, with repeated golden leaf and tendril motifs in between. Double gold rim on the upper edge, as well as complete internal gilding. Below the cobalt there is a wide golden band with gold-on-gold painting, and a golden arched frieze below, as well as a gold rim on the bottom edge. Edged gold-raised handle in J-shape with leaf and console end. The cup is painted on the saucer with the high, raised flag and smooth mirror: the flag in cobalt blue with the medallions and gold decorations, then on the edge of the mirror the gold band with gold-on-gold painting followed by an arched frieze. In the center a rosette with a star, leaf panicles and feathers. Conrad Sörgel von Sorgenthal (1735 Nuremberg - 1805 Vienna) From 1784 until his death he headed the Viennese porcelain manufactory, which under his leadership enjoyed great economic and artistic growth ('painterly period'). Sorgenthal was also the chief official for the state manufacturing system.
