About the Item
A delightful and scarce Watcombe Torquay Aesthetic Movement art pottery novelty sauce boat modelled as a frog pulling a shell dating between 1880 and 1890. Probably made for Liberty & Co the pottery figure portrays a frog pulling a large shell over a leaf which forms the base. The shell has a molded pouring spout to one side and assumed the frog forms the handle. The detailing is superb with a wonderful expression on the frog and good molded detail to the shell and leaf and the entire piece is decorated in brown glazes. The base is impressed WATCOMBE TORQUAY.
In good condition and minor wear associated with age and use with a few minor glaze chips around the underside of the rim.
