About the Item

We are delighted to offer this fine antique solid silver beaker made in France in the late 19th century. The beaker features a wonderfully ornate and impressive design of interweaving motifs, created by a spectacular engine-turned work. Additionally, the beaker is parcel gilt (areas of silver and silver-gilt for contrast), leaving the main body a darker silver colour due to the engraving and the accenting parts to be gilded. This creates an impressive illusion of depth and is a testament to its intricacy and craftsmanship. Owing to its versatile nature and ornate design, this piece could be use both as a practical drinking vessel or as part of an interior display to elevate the ambience of any setting. The inside is fully silver gilt with a rich gold tone which not only complements the overall appearance but prevents the contents held within from reacting and tarnishing the silver. The front of the beaker is wonderfully hand-engraved with a floral accent blending into a vacant cartouche. Overall a wonderfully elegant piece of French silver with fine decorations on a practical and versatile piece. The beaker is marked with the French Minerva hallmark near the top edge on the upper band. *All images with other items are for display purposes; this listing is for the title item only. Antique Georgian Sterling Silver Basket/Bowl Rococo Shell - Robert Garrard 1804
Located in London, GB
We are delighted to offer this magnificent Georgian solid silver basket made in London, 1804 by the acclaimed Royal gold/silversmith, Garrard (marks for Robert Garrard). Garrard (founded in 1735, surviving the test of time, still producing fine silverware and jewellery today), throughout history has been serving and producing exceptional pieces of silver and jewellery for the British Royal Family. The firm was appointed Crown Jeweller by Queen Victoria in 1843 which may come as no surprise upon examining the exceptional quality, craftsmanship and designs of their silverware/jewellery. It may come as no surprise that this George III basket presents some of the most desirable and impressive characteristics and embellishments. The basket is made in the manner of George II Rococo design and features ornate scrolled edges, rococo shells and intricate piercings. It is made from a wonderfully sturdy and thick gauge, resulting in the basket weighing just a touch over 1.4kg in spite of its relatively hollow and pierced design. This can be further appreciated when handling in person whereby the hefty weight is supported by the thick handle, presenting a reassuring feel of exceeding quality. The balance between asymmetric scrolls and the overall proportions of this basket is majestic and the intricate repeated piercings of crosses and anthemion motifs allow for light to shine through, further elevating its splendour on a table or display. Such baskets would have been originally owned and used by the upper echelons of society including the aristocracy and wealthy families acting as both a practical and symbolic dining accoutrament of prosperity. This basket has a central coat of arms hand engraved. We believe that even today, such baskets are still highly versatile and wonderful objects of decoration and practicality whether be it in an antique setting or a juxtaposing centrepiece in a modern interior. Owing to it generous size and elaborate design, it could be used to serve bread or cake in a party setting or perhaps hold some fruit on your dining table in the most opulent manner. Overall, an impressive and ornate example of fine Georgian silverware, ideal for immediately elevating the ambience of a setting and adding a magnificent silvery presence to your interior. A full set of English hallmarks is present on the base - the handle of the basket is unmarked. *Please note: all images with other items are for display purposes only, this listing is for the item mentioned in the title. SIZE Size (cm) L:34.5cm W:28.5cm H:22.5cm (to top of handle) Size (inches) L:13.5 W:11.22 H:8.85 (to top of handle) Weight: 1402 grams (45.07 Troy oz) CONDITION Good Condition - The basket is in good overall antique condition considering its age and type. There are some areas of old restoration with one pierced section having been repaired and some slight splits around the feet of the basket. Due to its ornate design, this is not very apparent or visible however we have mentioned it for accuracy. Areas with the most significant restoration have been shown in the last image. The central coat of arms engraving...
