About the Item

Buccellati sterling silver 'Milano' carving fork. This striking sterling silver carving fork was made by Italian luxury jewelry, Buccellati. The Buccellati family has a long tradition of working with precious metals and gemstones which spans more than 250 years. Mario Buccellati established the company in his name in 1919, and quickly went on to secure a reputation for his meticulous craftsmanship and artistic vision. Under Mario's leadership, the company has supplied the royal families of Italy, Spain and Egypt with Fine jewelry and sterling hollowware, in addition to creating pieces for the Vatican. Buccellati continues to pride itself on its original designs, with all of its pieces designed in house by Gianmaria Buccellati or his son Andrea. Buccellati's distinctive pieces are easily recognizable and sought after for their exceptional quality and exquisite craftsmanship. This sterling silver carving fork has been made in Buccellati's Milano pattern, introduced in the 1970's. The piece features reeded borders and stylized rope accents and is in excellent vintage condition with no removals or repairs, showing signs of age and light use including minor scuffs and scratches to the surface. The piece has a nice heft, weighing just over 4ozt. As seen in image 7, the obverse of the stem bears the Buccellati hallmark, reading "Buccellati STERLING" along with the country of production, "ITALY". This Buccellati Milano carving fork displays beautifully and would make a wonderful addition to a collection of Milano sterling flatware. The Classic design also coordinates well with other patterns, making it a versatile choice to add to your serving repertoire. An elegant piece.

Pre 1945 Georg Jensen Sterling Silver Tazza Compote 263B, Grape Motif
By Georg Jensen
Located in Cincinnati, OH
This fabulous Georg Jensen sterling silver tazza features Jensen's iconic grape motif, a celebrated range of pieces which were inspired by the Art Nouveau aesthetic coupled with time the artist spent traveling in Italy. Georg Jensen was born in 1866 and trained as a sculptor at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, graduating in 1892. Jensen began his artistic career in ceramics and started working with silver in 1904. He went on to establish his own smithy in Copenhagen and like many others working during the Art Nouveau period, was strongly influenced by natural forms and structure found in flowers and plants. As mentioned above, Jensen spent time in Italy shortly after the turn of the century and developed an appreciation for ancient Roman silver work. He was also struck by the work of more recent Italian artists and was particularly influenced by those pieces which drew upon classical mythology, such as Baroque painter Caravaggio's 'Bacchus'. Jensen combined these influences with emerging Art Nouveau organic motifs, leading him to utilize the malleable qualities of silver to create his renowned Grape Collection. This form of this silver tazza was initially designed by Jensen in 1918. The piece has a round pedestal foot which rises to a thick columnar stem reminiscent of the twisting trunk...
