A fine and impressive antique Yugoslavian silver tea caddy; an addition to our silver teaware collection. This fine antique Yugoslavian silver tea caddy has an oval rounded, tapering form. The surface of the box is plain and unembellished. This antique tea caddy is fitted with a plain domed hinged cover surmounted with an impressive chased decorated festoon style bow finial. The cover features a hallmarked incurved thumbpiece to the anterior edge. This antique tea caddy is supported by four impressive chased leaf decorated feet. The caddy retains the original gilded interior. A very good vintage Elizabeth II English sterling silver caddy spoon modelled in the form of a jockey cap; an addition to our diverse teaware collection. This vintage Elizabeth II sterling silver caddy spoon is realistically modelled in the form of a jockey cap; the design is based on an original George III jockey cap style caddy spoon. The outer surface of the cap is encircled with embossed panels of ribbed decoration accented with stylised husk pendant drops. The peak of the cap is embellished with embossed star, bead and octofoil motif decoration on a ribbed background incorporating a vacant shield shaped cartouche. This unusual vintage silver caddy spoon will sit on either the convex or concave side of the bowl. Condition This vintage caddy spoon is a very good gauge of silver, fine quality and in exceptional presentation condition. The embossed decoration is very sharp. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the rear of the bowl are all very clear. Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of vintage silverware. This exceptional antique George V sterling silver caddy spoon has a plain rounded bowl. The surface of the bowl and upper portion of the handle have a planished finish. The handle is embellished with a cast and applied panel depicting a rose bush with a paralleling rope twist decorated border. The handle terminal is further ornamented with a scalloped border. This impressive antique 1920s silver caddy spoon was crafted by the renowned silversmith Henry George Murphy; the full hallmarks incorporate Murphy's Falcon Studio mark. Condition This antique 1920s silver caddy spoon is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The cast and applied decoration is very sharp. An exceptional, fine and impressive antique George V Scottish sterling silver caddy spoon; an addition to our teaware collection. This exceptional antique George V Scottish sterling silver caddy spoon has a plain shovel shaped bowl. The handle terminal is embellished with a cast features depicting Celtic knots and interlacing designs, paralleling a mystical interlaced creature. The handle stem is further ornamented with a raised paralleling border, incorporating scrolling designs to either end. This impressive antique 1920s silver caddy spoon was crafted by the distinguished and collectable silversmith Alexander Ritchie of Iona, Scotland; the piece includes full Glaswegian hallmarks, in addition to identifying 'AR', 'Iona' and registration number RD NO 643267. Alexander was in the Merchant Navy and returned home once injured in a ship wreck. He returned home to help the family run hospitality business and married Euphemia Thomson; a prior student of the Glasgow School of Art. The couple expanded their love of art and Alex expanded his skill set from wood carving to metal work. Everything was made to the Ritchies' specifications and to a high standard. In 1937, Alex Ritchie's work was included in a prestigious Scottish Industries Exhibition on London. Condition This antique Scottish sterling silver caddy spoon is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The cast decoration is very sharp. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the stem and reverse of the handle are all very clear. Antique and Vintage Tableware

While it isn’t always top of mind for some, antique and vintage tableware can enhance even the most informal meal. It has been an intimate part of how we’ve interacted with our food for millennia.

Tableware has played a basic but important role in everyday life. Ancient Egyptians used spoons (which are classified as flatware) made of ivory and wood, while Greeks and Romans, who gathered for banquets involving big meals and entertainment, ate with forks and knives. At the beginning of the 17th century, however, forks were still uncommon in American homes. Over time, tableware has thankfully evolved and today includes increasingly valuable implements.

Tableware refers to the tools people use to set the table, including serving pieces, dinner plates and more. It encompasses everything from the intricate and elaborate to the austere and functional, yet are all what industrial product designer Jasper Morrison might call “Super Normal” — anonymous objects that are too useful to be considered banal.

There are four general categories of tableware — serveware, dinnerware, drinkware and, lastly, flatware, which is commonly referred to as silverware or cutlery. Serveware includes serving bowls, platters, gravy boats, casserole pans and ladles. Most tableware is practical, but it can also be decorative. And decorative objects count as tableware too. Even though they don’t fit squarely into one of the four categories, vases, statues and floral arrangements are traditional centerpieces.

Drinkware appropriately refers to the vessels we use for our beverages — mugs, cups and glasses. There is a good deal of variety that falls under this broad term. For example, your cheerful home bar or mid-century modern bar cart might be outfitted with a full range of vintage barware, which might include pilsner glasses and tumblers. Specialty cocktails are often served in these custom glasses, but they’re still a type of drinkware.

Every meal should be special — even if you’re using earthenware or stoneware for a casual lunch — but perhaps you’re hosting a dinner party to mark a specific event. The right high-quality tableware can bring a touch of luxury to your cuisine. Young couples, for example, traditionally add “fine china,” or porcelain, to their wedding registry as a commemoration of their union and likely wouldn’t turn down exquisite silver made by Tiffany & Co. or Georg Jensen.

It’s important to remember, however, that when you’re setting the dining room table to have fun with it. Just as you might mix and match your dining chairs, don’t be afraid to mix new and old or high and low with your tableware.
