An exceptional, fine and impressive antique George V English sterling silver cup with cover made by C S Harris & Sons Ltd, an addition to our presentation silverware collection.
This exceptional antique sterling silver cup with cover has a plain bell shaped form onto a circular spreading pedestal foot and plain square base.
The lower portion of the body is encircled with chased layered acanthus and water leaf designs.
The upper portion of this antique silver cup is embellished with an exceptional applied band of scroll and palmette style foliate decoration, accented with bead ornamentation to the lower portion.
The upper rim is encompassed with a plain applied moulded border.
This exceptional example of antique silverware retains the original hallmarked domed push fit cover ornamented with further chased layered leaf designs accented with an exceptional leaf decorated border to the rim.
The swept upper portion of the cover is embellished with further bead decoration, surmounted with the original hallmarked cast and applied foliate style finial.
This silver antique presentation cup is fitted with two impressive casts and applied narrow loop style handles accented with scrolling leaf ornamentation to the upper portion of the handpiece and enveloped with further elongated leaf designs to the lower portion.
The circular pedestal foot is encompassed with a tiered leaf decorated border.
The interior of the cup and cover retains the original gilding.
If required, this antique cup and cover could be supplied with a bespoke ebonised black plinth with sterling silver plaque or band, suitable for a personal engraved inscription. This service would take approximately 6 weeks, whereas the cup can be dispatched separately prior to completion.
This exceptional cup and cover was crafted by the renowned London silversmiths C S Harris & Sons Ltd.
Condition
This sterling silver cup with cover is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.
The applied, cast and chased decoration is all very sharp.
Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the cup and rim of the cover are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver.

At the beginning of the 17th century, however, forks were still uncommon in American homes. Over time, tableware has thankfully evolved and today includes increasingly valuable implements.
Tableware refers to the tools people use to set the table, including serving pieces, dinner plates and more. It encompasses everything from the intricate and elaborate to the austere and functional, yet are all what industrial product designer Jasper Morrison might call “Super Normal” — anonymous objects that are too useful to be considered banal.
There are four general categories of tableware — serveware, dinnerware, drinkware and, lastly, flatware, which is commonly referred to as silverware or cutlery. Serveware includes serving bowls, platters, gravy boats, casserole pans and ladles. Most tableware is practical, but it can also be decorative. And decorative objects count as tableware too. Even though they don’t fit squarely into one of the four categories, vases, statues and floral arrangements are traditional centerpieces.
Drinkware appropriately refers to the vessels we use for our beverages — mugs, cups and glasses. There is a good deal of variety that falls under this broad term. For example, your cheerful home bar or mid-century modern bar cart might be outfitted with a full range of vintage barware, which might include pilsner glasses and tumblers. Specialty cocktails are often served in these custom glasses, but they’re still a type of drinkware.
Every meal should be special — even if you’re using earthenware or stoneware for a casual lunch — but perhaps you’re hosting a dinner party to mark a specific event. The right high-quality tableware can bring a touch of luxury to your cuisine. Young couples, for example, traditionally add “fine china,” or porcelain, to their wedding registry as a commemoration of their union and likely wouldn’t turn down exquisite silver made by Tiffany & Co. or Georg Jensen.
