About the Item
This elegant matched seven-piece Modernist coffee or tea set is made of sterling silver and rosewood. The set includes a coffee pot, tea pot, pitcher, cream jug, and covered sugar bowl. The cream and covered sugar bowl come complete with their own ovoid tray while the entire set rests on a large rectangular tray fitted with rosewood handles at either side.
The serving pieces have a sleek form with circular bases that rise to tapered cylindrical bodies. The spouts of the tea and coffee pots echo the tapered cylindrical form, while their handles and those found on the other vessels have an angular shape which provides visual contrast.
The underside of the pieces are fully hallmarked reading Mexico, Sterling and 925 along with the eagle mark and maker's mark. The set is quite substantial and has a total weight of 5346g including the rosewood elements.
Measurements of the pieces are as follows:
Coffee pot 11.75" tall to top of finial
Pitcher 10.75" tall to top of spout
Tea pot 9.75" tall to top of finial
Cream jug 4.25" to top of spout
Lidded sugar bowl 5" to top of finial
Oval tray 10" by 5"
Rectangular Tray 22.5" by 14.75" and 1.5" tall

Pre 1945 Georg Jensen Sterling Silver Tazza Compote 263B, Grape Motif
By Georg Jensen
Located in Cincinnati, OH
This fabulous Georg Jensen sterling silver tazza features Jensen's iconic grape motif, a celebrated range of pieces which were inspired by the Art Nouveau aesthetic coupled with time the artist spent traveling in Italy.
Georg Jensen was born in 1866 and trained as a sculptor at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, graduating in 1892. Jensen began his artistic career in ceramics and started working with silver in 1904. He went on to establish his own smithy in Copenhagen and like many others working during the Art Nouveau period, was strongly influenced by natural forms and structure found in flowers and plants.
As mentioned above, Jensen spent time in Italy shortly after the turn of the century and developed an appreciation for ancient Roman silver work. Jensen combined these influences with emerging Art Nouveau organic motifs, leading him to utilize the malleable qualities of silver to create his renowned Grape Collection.
This form of this silver tazza was initially designed by Jensen in 1918. The piece has a round pedestal foot which rises to a thick columnar stem reminiscent of the twisting trunk...
