About the Item

French vintage decorative earthenware crockery pot by Albert Thiry (circa 1960s). Delightfully pear-shaped body with incised floral motif decoration. A creamy white enamel covers the body with green and blue highlights and splashes of brown throughout. The removable cover has a rounded bell-shaped handle with incised, very textural vertical lines emanating from the centre. Very rustic in a Provençal style. In overall good condition. Unsigned but attributed to Albert Thiry with his trademark motifs and colour schemes. Please enjoy the many photos accompanying the listing. This gallery finds that Thiry's works are increasingly in demand in overdue recognition of his artistic creativity. Upon request a video of this piece may be provided. About the Artist: Albert Thiry (1932 - 2009) was born in Nice, France. His family moved to Vallauris where he spent most of the school holidays in the potteries; in 1956 he was taken on as an assistant decorator with an opportunity to make his own pieces. Albert and his wife, Pyot, set up their own pottery in 1961. Their standard production, in Vallauris clay with added grog to emphasise rusticity, resulted in delightful pieces both highly elaborate and utilitarian. Dimensions: H 28 cm / 11" W 23 cm / 9.1 D 20 cm / 7.9".
