A pair of late 19th Century polychrome painted wooden Indian figures

About the Item

A pair of late 19th Century polychrome painted wooden Indian figures. It’s likely that these figures were brought back to Britain from India as souvenirs in the late 19th century. The East India Company fuelled the desire for paintings and figures by travellers by setting up their own workshops to meet the demand. This pair of figures are well carved and neatly painted even down to the man's moustache and with real platted human hair on the female figure. With their original paper labels still in place, in great condition considering their age. Dimensions in inches: H 12” x W 4” x D 4” Age: Late 19th Century Origin: India Condition: Good This item shows natural wear and aging with light scuffs and chipped painted detail. With no structural cracks (female ankle) which is only on the painted surface as shown. We strongly suggest reviewing all the photos provided as part of this advert and propose questions where sections are unclear to avoid disappointment upon purchase. A direct message usually takes 24 hours to answer. For multiple years we have sold antique items globally, please expect our items to show relevant age and natural wear, Items only restored due to breaks and major loss, and we always stipulate this in our condition report.
