Bembe Bearded Male Figure Bust with Beard Staff Top DRC Africa
About the Item
Striking Bembe bearded male bust figure with hands on sides of projecting stomach and finely carved beard. Stacking square hair style on top of head and projecting element hair on back of head. Classic Bembe form, on tapering square base, probably cut from the top of a prestige staff. Nice wear, age and polish from traditional use.
11 1/4 inches high on custom metal base (wear and chips to metal base), overall, on base 12 1/2"
Created mid 20th century or earlier.
