About the Item

Gorgeous chandelier decorated with peacocks by Muller Frères (glass) and Andre Kovacs (wrought-iron frame), 1920s. The glassware is made up of four glass balls plus a larger central one. Each lampshade by Muller Freres shows 6 peacocks. Each exterior shade hangs from a peacock-shaped wrought iron frame by Andre Kovacs in the same pattern as the glassware. Four peacocks are added to the top of the frame under the canopy to create a harmony so particular to this extremely rare chandelier. Signed twice on each shade. "Muller Freres Luneville" molded on the bottom and acid "Muller Fres Luneville" near the neck. Some bites and an open bubble at the rims, usual and hidden by the metal fixture. Very good condition. Delivered wired for your country (US, UK, EU, China, Australia, etc). LED can be used. André Kovacs (1876-1957) was born in the small Ottoman Hungarian town of Párkány, and moved to France at the beginning of the 20th century to practice his trade as an artistic ironworker. He operates at 31 rue des Bois in Paris, where he specializes in hammered ornaments. For his work, which he exhibited at various exhibitions in Europe, he obtained numerous awards including the gold medal at the Universal Exhibition in Liège in 1905. After acquiring French nationality in 1926, he transferred his workshops to numbers 70 and 72 rue Orfila. His lighting fixtures, which he equipped mainly with molded and pressed glassware by Muller Frères in Lunéville, experienced wider commercial distribution at the end of the 1920s. It was at this time that he extended his offer to bronzes of lighting, like other artistic ironworkers like Henri Fournet in Lyon.
