Noce t floor and table lamp by Achille Castiflioni for Flos

About the Item

For sale is a rare and fascinating wall lamp designed by Achille Castiglioni for Flos in the 1970s, a piece that perfectly embodies the innovative and playful spirit of one of the undisputed masters of Italian design. This lamp is not only a functional object, but an aesthetic statement, capable of recounting an entire era of modern design with simplicity and irony. Castiglioni, known for his ability to transform industrial elements into everyday objects with a strong visual impact, created this wall lamp with an approach that is both rational and poetic, where nothing is left to chance and every detail is designed to dialogue with the environment in which it is inserted. The metal body painted in a vivid red contrasts harmoniously with the transparent striped glass diffuser, which softens the light and gives a warm and welcoming visual effect. The ovoid and compact shape, characterized by soft and rounded lines, perfectly reflects the influence of the modernist design of those years, but with a very personal, immediately recognizable stylistic figure. It is an object that speaks of home, architecture, function and style; a perfect balance between form and content, between technique and imagination. This lamp is ideal for those who want to embellish their interiors with an original and significant piece, suitable for both vintage contexts and contemporary spaces in search of a retro touch. It can be installed in corridors, entrances, bedrooms or sophisticated living rooms, bringing with it not only light, but also a history of design and planning culture. It is more than a simple light source: it is a fragment of the history of Italian design, an author's object destined to last over time and to tell its identity to those who know how to grasp its value.

The lamp is working and in excellent condition, with original lacquer intact and with a clearly visible mark in the lampshade, the diffuser glasses have been replaced. From their first meeting at the IUAV in Venice until the transfer to the Venetian countryside, her place of origin, the son of Carlo Scarpa, Tobia appunto (class 1935) and Afra Bianchin (class 1937) first shared a degree - it was 1957 and the two officially became architects - then a marriage and a career that marked their lives and those of Italian drawing at the turn After the laurel wreath, after Tobia was in service for the Venini glassworks in Murano (but only for a few months), it seems that it was Franco Albini who sparked between the two. Not that Franco Albini did anything firsthand. But while he was in the chair giving his decoration course, the two young artists fell in love with those same desks in the service of design. So the Pigreco for Gavina - first project together, first chair together - came into the world just like a daughter: the result of a flame of love...
