Italian Modern Opaline Glass Table Lamp Daruma by Asti for Fontana Arte, 1970s

About the Item

Italian modern Opaline glass Table lamp Daruma by Asti for Fontana Arte, 1970s Table lamp mod. Daruma with round base. The rounded structure of the diffuser is made up of two hemispherical parts in hand-blown opaline glass. Produced by Fontana Arte in 1970s and designed by Sergio Asti in 1969. This model is part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Very good condition. Measurements in cm 44x46H The daruma comes from the Japanese tradition: this is a rounded doll with a white face and eyes. The pupils are drawn later: one when a wish is made and one when it comes true. The name comes from the structure of the lamp, which recalls the shape of the Japanese doll. This table lamp derives from a simple and rigorous realization: a spherical vase surmounted by a small cap. The light of this lamp is warm, diffused and not direct (thanks to the opal glass structure)
