About the Item

I propose for sale a lamp halfway between a sculpture and an artistic installation, designed by the architect Naghi Habib and produced by the historic Italian lighting company "SLAMP" by Samuel Parcker srl in the early 2000s. the SLAMP company, still in business, revolutionized the concept of home lighting in the mid-90s making it dynamic, less serious and lighter, not only for the use of technopolymers used to produce its articles but also conceptually. The series of Tube lamps produced in 94 by SLAMP thanks to the collaboration with Alessandro Mendini is a real breaking point in the history of Italian lighting; in the era in which the dining room chandelier was still an immovable and heavy element in home furnishings, Slamp began to produce totemic-shaped lamps at a competitive price, very light and unbreakable, they play on both sides with graphic elements of Pop Art, Posterin and graffiti. Our "Butterflies" lamp, currently out of production, is one of the thousand variations produced of the Tube series, but it shows unusual free form applications added to the classic white totemic shape that can be moved and positioned as desired thanks to the central rivet. This Post Modern Lamp combines functionality with a playful aspect. With your fingers you can rotate the colored silhouettes of these three orange, lilac and fluorescent green butterflies and color the light in many different ways. The three stylized butterfly silhouettes have the same function as the gelatins used on theater and cinema lights to filter and customize the light by coloring it. As I was saying, this lamp makes me think of a real artistic installation, it reminds me of Calder's kinetic art for the silhouettes of the butterflies and the possibility of movement, the works of James Turrell for the multiple possibilities of coloring the light and the space around it. The item works and is in good condition.

Italian Post Modern Table Lamp made in Murano Glass in the style of Umberto Riva
By Umberto Riva
Located in Roma, IT
Splendid Postmodern table lamp produced in Italy by the "Punto Luce" company using glass made by Murano glass artisans. This is an "atmosphere" lamp and not a reading lamp. The dimmable halogen bulb releases a light that is softened and tinged with pastel colors by the shaded and colored Murano glass. The lamp is essentially composed of two modules: The first is a base in light gray overlaid with white Murano glass, decorated with thin iron gray lines. This has a conical shape and houses the halogen bulb inside. The second is a large shaded Murano glass lampshade. Its concave shape, like an upside-down hat or a serving plate; unlike normal "lampshades" which force and direct the light into a cone, this diffuses it upwards, widening its radius. A heavy black enamelled metal base stabilizes the weight of the lamp making it very stable. The style of this lamp recalls the elegant and essential 80s lamps...
