About the Item

Pair of brass desk lamps designed by Kaare Klint in 1945 and produced by Le Klint in the 1950s. Klint was inspired by boat lamps, with a tilting system allowing them to remain vertical despite the boat's tilt. The tilting system thus allows them to be transformed into wall lights. Brass structure. Electrical system refurbished. A detailed certificate will be given to the buyer. Born in 1888 in Frederiksberg, Denmark, architect, designer and teacher Kaare Klint initially studied painting at private art schools, then studied architecture with his father, architect Peder Vilhelm Jensen-Klint, and Carl Petersen. In 1914, Petersen invited the young Kaare to assist him in designing furniture for the Faaborg Museum. In 1920, Klint opened his own office, and for 20 years he continued to design furniture for the Danish Museum of Decorative Art and the Thorvaldsens Museum in Copenhagen. Klint helped found the Furniture School at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen in 1923, where he was appointed the first associate professor of furniture design in 1924. This position allowed him to inspire several Danish designers who were at the origin of the international rise of mid-century modernist design, such as Poul Kjærholm and Børge Mogensen. Kaare's work is characterized by craftsmanship, functionalism, and a love of quality wood. Through his research-based work, Kaare strives to teach his students that in order to create new designs, one must first understand classical furniture, but also the evolution of design forms. Notable projects include the Faarburg Chair (1914), the Propeller Stool and Red Chair (1927), and the Safari Chair and Deck Chair (1933). He also participated in the design of the Grundtvig Church in Copenhagen, originally designed by Peder Vilhelm Jensen-Klint, which began construction in 1921. After his father's death in 1930, Kaare Klint took over the project, completing it in 1940. In 1949, Kaare was awarded the title of Honorary Designer for Industry in London, and in 1954, the CF Hansen Medal from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Her work is included in the collections of the Designmuseum Danmark in London, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Faaborf Museum in Copenhagen, the Israel Museum in Jerusalem, and the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum in New York, among others. Kaare Klint died in 1954 in Copenhagen.
