Dutch Arts & Crafts Hand Hammered Copper Oval Wall Mirror of Practical Size 1910
Located in Lisse, NL
Early 1900s artistic design Arts & Crafts wall mirror. This all-handcrafted, practical size Arts & Crafts antique with its original mirror is an absolute joy to own and look at. The unusual and attractive asymmetrical design of the embossed decoration at the bottom makes this hand hammered copper specimen stand out from anything we ever saw. The hand-crafted out of one piece of copper frame has an aesthetic beauty that you either see and recognize or you don't. There usually is no gray area and somehow the creators and the people who loved and bought (and still buy) those creations have something in common that is hard to put into words. We believe it has to do with a certain level of consciousness. The combination of the unique design and the marvelous patina of the beautiful copper AND the superb condition of the original mirror, makes this an absolute gem to come home to. By the way, the original mirror is in such remarkable condition, also, thanks to the zinc back plate. The zinc has protected the back of the mirror from corroding. On the zinc backplate of this mirror is the sticker of the French art dealer who offered this rare Arts and Crafts mirror to his undoubtedly well-to-do 'clientele' If you like this unique and completely original Dutch Arts and Crafts mirror (in the manner of Conrad Fehn...

Hand Carved Black Forest Bear Sculpture Hand or Vanity Mirror with Beveled Edge
Located in Lisse, NL
Finer quality carved, wooden Black Forest hand mirror, circa 1890-1910 If you are a collector of only the finer quality Black Forest bear antiques then this hand mirror could be the perfect addition to your collection. This antique bear is balancing on a wooden tree trunk and he is holding the beveled mirror for you. His right hand, at some point in time, has been 'reconstructed' and that probably was done at the same time when the excellent condition and beveled oval mirror was replaced. This rare antique has the most wonderful patina and with at least 100 years of age it is incredible to be in this condition still. The original glass eyes and the original red painted tongue and white teeth are the perfect finish to this skillfully carved and intricate bear mirror...

Octagonal Mirror w/Early 20th C. Spanish Brazier Surround, Custom Design
Located in Atlanta, GA
A fantastic octagonal mirror which has been custom fashioned with an antique Spanish wooden brazier as the surround, with new mirrored glass in it's center. This wall decoration features a new, circular-shaped mirror at center, within a beautifully rustic and octagonal-shaped wooden "brasero." The brazier (also referred to as a brasero) is an early 20th century heating element from Spain, which once would have been used to heat a home, with a bowl with hot coals held within it's center (where the new mirror is now). The sides of the mirror project out from the wall with carved legs approximately 5.5", giving this piece visual interest when viewed from it's sides. However, should you wish the mirror to be without legs, we are happy to cut those off if that works better for your needs. The wood is rustic and natural with a nice patina and show of use. This custom antique Spanish Brasero...

Antique Mirrors for Sale: Wall Mirrors, Vintage Table Mirrors and Full-Length Mirrors for Bedrooms on 1stDibs

The road from early innovations in reflective glass to the alluring antique and vintage mirrors in trendy modern interiors has been a long one but we’re reminded of the journey everywhere we look.

In many respects, wall mirrors, floor mirrors and full-length mirrors are to interior design what jeans are to dressing. Exceedingly versatile. Universally flattering. Unobtrusively elegant. And while all mirrors are not created equal, even in their most elaborate incarnation, they're still the heavy lifters of interior design, visually enlarging and illuminating any space

We’ve come a great distance from the polished stone that served as mirrors in Central America thousands of years ago or the copper mirrors of Mesopotamia before that. Today’s coveted glass Venetian mirrors, which should be cleaned with a solution of white vinegar and water, were likely produced in Italy beginning in the 1500s, while antique mirrors originating during the 19th century can add the rustic farmhouse feel to your mudroom that you didn’t know you needed.

By the early 20th century, experiments with various alloys allowed for mirrors to be made inexpensively. The geometric shapes and beveled edges that characterize mirrors crafted in the Art Deco style of the 1920s can bring pizzazz to your entryway, while an ornate LaBarge mirror made in the Hollywood Regency style makes a statement in any bedroom. Friedman Brothers is a particularly popular manufacturer known for decorative round and rectangular framed mirrors designed in the Rococo, Louis XVI and other styles, including dramatic wall mirrors framed in gold faux bamboo that bear the hallmarks of Asian design

Perhaps unsurprisingly, mid-century modernism continues to influence the design of contemporary mirrors. Today’s simple yet chic mantel mirror frames, for example, often neutral in color, owe to the understated mirror designs introduced in the postwar era.

Sculptor and furniture maker Paul Evans had been making collage-style cabinets since at least the late 1950s when he designed his Patchwork mirror — part of a series that yielded expressive works of combined brass, copper and pewter — for Directional Furniture during the mid-1960s. Several books celebrating Evans’s work were published beginning in the early 2000s, as his unconventional furniture has been enjoying a moment not unlike the resurgence that the Ultrafragola mirror is seeing. Designed by the Memphis Group’s Ettore Sottsass in 1970, the Ultrafragola mirror, in all its sensuous acrylic splendor, has become somewhat of a star thanks to much-lauded appearances in shelter magazines and on social media.

On 1stDibs, we have a broad selection of vintage and antique mirrors and tips on how to style your contemporary mirror too.
