About the Item

James Shore's Daughter by Stephen Vincent Benét. Publisher: Doubleday, Doran & Company, Inc, Garden City, New York 1934. Stated 1st numbered Ed (#3/307) Signed by the author with slipcase. This was Nelson Doubledays personal copy. He was given a copy of this book because he was the publisher of Doubleday at the time. I would assume the author had kept the first two copies. The book is unread and a lot of the pages were never cut. There are a few pages that have small tears. Stephen Vincent Benét (July 22, 1898 – March 13, 1943) was an American poet, short story writer, and novelist. He is best known for his book-length narrative poem of the American Civil War, John Brown's Body (1928), for which he received the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry, and for the short stories "The Devil and Daniel Webster" (1936) and "By the Waters of Babylon" (1937). In 2009, The Library of America selected his story "The King of the Cats" (1929) for inclusion in its two-century retrospective of American Fantastic Tales edited by Peter Straub. We are a division of Trent Antiques, has a large collection of used and out of print books on art, architecture, decoration and antiques with a focus on 1st editions, signed and limited editions.
