About the Item
Portable Shrine Depicting the Pastimes of Lord Vishnu India, 19th century
A beautifully crafted wooden portable shrine intricately painted and designed to unfold in layers, each door revealing different episodes from the pastimes of Lord Vishnu. As the shrine is opened, scenes from various Vishnu incarnations are sequentially displayed, culminating in the central sanctum housing the revered deities Rama, Lakshmana, and Sita.
This devotional object, both artistic and functional, reflects the deep narrative tradition of Hinduism and the devotion of its maker. The shrine is painted in rich, earthy tones with expressive detailing and is well-preserved with minor signs of age.
