Short Necklace 'Choker' pearls 'aljófares', Gold '14-Karat'
Located in Madrid, ES
Popular style choker. Spain, circa late 19th century. Gold choker and small pearls (of different shapes and sizes) with a rectangular closure secured with a chain and another ring clasp, which has a series of "links" decorated with gold filigree and aljófar, alternating ones with a composition that recalls to a flower or rosette with others whose lines are more reminiscent of a bird; to the front, there is a piece with a symmetrical rosette composition at the centre and wings like a butterfly on the sides, from which hangs a vegetable (pendant) form. All these elements or forms have been drawn with a base in gold and have been decorated and enhanced with filigree of turned gold thread and fixed pearls with gold wire. The jewel presents details that recall certain outstanding pieces of the 18th century, showing the connection with the usual tradition in this type of objects that, at present, are still very appreciated for their quality, their brightness and their connection with the world of regional costumes...
