Big Riviera Woollen Carpet by Nathalie du Pasquier for Memphis Milano Collection

About the Item

Large Riviera woollen carpet by Nathalie du Pasquier for Memphis Milano collection A woollen carpet handcrafted by different Nepalese artisans. As the carpet is made by hand, there are slight variations in the dimensions of the single items. The lengthy manufacturing process starts with the shearing of the traditionally reared sheep. The wool is then spun and dyed, and the carefully selected wool fibres are washed. The knots used by the craftsmen is the Tibetan “Senneh”, different from the Persian and the Turkish one. The rug is realized in Yum quality and Yum for the bigger version. The carpets made in this way are brightly coloured, and each pattern is unique. The carpets may be made in different sizes on request, but will always be produced in the proportions shown in the catalogue. The product is purchased with authenticity certificate and guarantee stamp. Additional information: Collection: Memphis Milano Designer: Nathalie du Pasquier Year: 1983 Dimensions: W 250, H 350 cm Available in size option: Small Pricing: price does not include VAT Nathalie du Pasquier is a French artist and designer who has lived in Milan since 1979. In 1981, Du Pasquier was one of the co-founders of the Memphis Group. Her numerous designs for decorated surfaces such as fabrics, carpets, furniture, and plastic laminates have played a key role in the creation of the unmistakable Memphis style. Despite her success as a designer, painting has been his main activity since 1987. Du Pasquier’s ongoing research is articulated in paintings, sculptures, drawings, models, constructions, carpets, books, and ceramics, which constantly investigate the boundary between the representative and the unrepresentative, the tangible and the intangible, reality and imagination, and two/three-dimensional forms. Her paintings have been exhibited in galleries and institutions around the world, such as PACE Gallery and the Camden Arts Centre in London, Kunsthalle Lissabon, Kunsthalle Wien. Nathalie du Pasquier continues to design fabrics and collaborates with important brands. Memphis is the great cultural phenomenon of the 1980s that revolutionized creative and commercial logics in design. Born from the IDEA of Ettore Sottsass and a group of young designers and architects, in Milan, coupled in the years by famous designers from the international scene, Memphis turned upside down all of the existing parameters on living. Ettore Sottsass as the backbone of the group, design gained a new concept and expression through new shapes, materials and patterns, expanding the creative limits of the industry. Memphis became a symbol of New Design. Its influence is still clear in various sectors of production and beyond.

    By Ettore Sottsass
    Located in London, GB
The curvaceous pink ‘Ultrafragola’ mirror designed by Ettore Sottsass is probably the most iconic of all his many designs. Originally produced in the 1970s by Poltronova, the ‘Ultrafragola’ formed part of a series of Sottsass designs named Mobili Grigi. When illuminated, the tubular lights within the mirror transform the white opaline acrylic shell into a stunning multi-pink display. This unique, individually numbered, re-edition piece is still produced by the same Florentine company today and is sold with a “Certificate of Authenticity”. The perfectly pink ‘selfie’ mirror!
