About the Item

The term Sumak refers to the technique of "wrapped wefts" used for the weaving of certain Kilims and spread throughout the East, the most appreciated are those of the Caucasus. There are innumerable variations, but at the base, the technique to get the carpet designs is to wrap the weft of the Kilim, previously woven, with wools of various colors (in fact the Sumak are easily recognizable due to their compact consistency and colorful plots running free on the back of the carpet). The design of this model is the most classic and most admired among the ancient Sumak rugs and owes its name not to the dragons that are not there, but to the resemblance with the ancient Caucasian 'dragons' rugs from which it probably derives. In a flamboyant profusion of colors with beautiful bright greens and yellows, they are just harmless little birds and other little animals stylized to populate this fantastic piece.
