About the Item

The carpet manufactory in Hereke, a city in western Turkey, was founded by the Ottoman Sultan Abdulmecid I in 1841 to produce all of the textiles for his palaces. He gathered the best weavers and artists of the Ottoman Empire to produce high-quality rugs and carpets with unique patterns. The production at Hereke continues to this day, primarily credited with weaving the finest silk rugs and carpets. This wool carpet has an overall dense floral pattern on an ivory field within a scarlet palmette and leafy vine border. It has the Hereke manufactory signature woven into the outer guard stripe border in the upper left corner of the rug, and has a weave quality of approximately 225 knots per square inch. 16' 2" x 10' 9".
