Carlo Scarpa Cornaro Three Seater Sofa by Cassina

About the Item

Carlo Scarpa Cornaro Three Seater Sofa Manufactured by Cassina SCULPTURAL ELEGANCE Geometric austerity encounters enveloping padding in this sofa designed by maestro Carlo Scarpa in 1973. Based on the contrast between the wooden structure and the soft cushions that form the backrest, seat and armrests, every detail of Cornaro is meticulously curated to highlight the original aesthetic of the model, updated in height and depth. The enveloping upholstered cushions that give the backrest, seat and armrests their shape are set within a majestic, sculptural wooden frame. STRUCTURE. Base in beech with glossy lacquer finish or ash with open-pore matte lacquer finish. LACES. In exposed thin black saddle leather contained inside a grommet developed to simplify connecting the backrest to the structure. PADDING. Recycled PET fibre and elements made of polyurethane with a percentage of polyols derived from biological sources and in CIRCULARREFOAM®. Designed in 1973 by Carlo Scarpa, Cornaro is distinguished by its unique material and structural contrasts. The geometrically austere base embraces the soft seat. The enveloping padded elements that form the backrest, seat and armrests are nestled in a sculptural wooden structure. The sofa’s proportions have been updated, increasing their height and depth, through in-depth research and development work carried out in close collaboration with Tobia Scarpa. Every detail was meticulously curated to highlight the original aesthetic of the model, like the exposed thin black saddle leather laces contained inside a grommet developed to simplify connecting the backrest to the structure. Cornaro is available as an armchair, sofa, or a two- or three-seat end element. Three Seater Sofa model Soriana designed by Tobia Scarpa in 1969. Manufactured by Cassina in Italy. A design armchair with soft, generous contours, designed to bring home casual, sophisticated comfort that opens the door to new, freer lifestyles. The idea for this armchair that changed the face of upholstered furniture belongs to Afra and Tobia Scarpa, who designed it in 1969, starting with the new possibilities offered by the forming of polyurethane foam to create an unconventional look of leisure. With a vise-like grip, the metal structure holds the armchair, with its biodegradable internal padding that, for the first time ever, needs no internal support, intensifying the comfort level of this upholstered chair in the most freeing sense of the word.
