Kaare Klint "Faaborg Chair" – Rud Rasmussen, 1950s

About the Item

Kaare Klint (1888–1954) The Faaborg Chair was designed by Danish architect and furniture designer Kaare Klint (1888–1954) in 1914 as part of the interior for Faaborg Museum, dedicated to the artists known as the Funen Painters. Intended for use in the museum's exhibition halls, the chair allowed guests to sit comfortably while admiring the art in quiet surroundings. This particular example was crafted in the 1950s by renowned Danish cabinetmaker Rud Rasmussen, in Cuban mahogany with a woven rattan backrest and upholstered black leather seat. The piece bears the original Rud Rasmussen label and was fully restored in 1998, with the seat reupholstered in black leather by Rud Rasmussen’s workshop. The Faaborg Chair is widely regarded as a cornerstone of Danish modern design – merging functionality, elegance, and architectural sensitivity – and marks Kaare Klint’s first official furniture commission.
