About the Item

Gio Ponti is an Italian architect, designer, writer and founder of the Domus magazine. He is widely considered one of the benchmarks for the renewal of Italian design after the Second World War. Known for his interdisciplinary creativity, he embraced new and modern materials while referring to tradition in original and unconventional ways. This pair of armchairs in oak wood, brass and silk was designed in 1954 for Cassina and reflects his prospect on comfort and lightness, influenced by the exhibition Italy at Work at the Brooklyn Museum in 1950. Crafted from oak wood, the frames highlight the materials with clean, sculptural lines that balance functionality and sophistication. The legs feature subtle brass accents, creating a contrast with the oak wood. The combination of materials—oak, brass, and silk—creates a harmonious interplay of textures and tones, while the thoughtful proportions and curves ensure both comfort and timeless style. Sold with an authenticity certificate from Gio Ponti Archives.
