About the Item

A George III (1790) Lancastrian oak panel back settle, raised on cabriole legs. Wonderful settle from the Stone House needs a little TLC, but otherwise a generally solid piece of furniture. The left arm connection between upright and arm is a little lose and might require some glue. Wear and tear is consistent with age and reflected in pricing. Provenance: from the principal contents of The Stone House, Bolney, West Sussex, UK

An absolutely stunning example of an early oak Wainscot chair, the carved foliate and scroll top rail above a paneled back, centered with an incised lozenge, initialed and dated ‘P D 1539’, over the board seat upon turned baluster front legs and plain rear legs united by peripheral cross stretchers. We don't know the relevance of the date seeing the chair was probably made in the later part of the 16th century.
