About the Item
This series by Los Angeles–based artist Christopher Norman explores the traits of molded forms executed in exceptional woods. The mass and the scale of the curves are unusual while being highly relatable. In any setting, they call out to be used and enjoyed. Each item is one solid piece of wood, which was sourced locally from urban trees in Los Angeles, California. Because of the nature of nonindustrial lumber and the fact that they are handmade, each piece will have a unique and exceptional character.
For Norman’s wood forms, he uses freshly cut trees rather than buying industrially conditioned material. After the piece leaves the studio, the finished work continues to shift as it conditions naturally. In the tradition of green-woodworking, the final shape and integrity come after the worked material achieves equilibrium with its environment.
