Pair of “Lufthavns Stole” Chairs by Ditte Heath and Adrian Heath, Denmark, 1969
Located in Utrecht, NL
This pair of armchairs from the “Series 186” is also known as the “Lufthavns-stole” (Airport chairs). The model was designed in 1969 for Cado Collection. The aluminium frame is without a doubt the most dominant feature of these chairs. The sturdy frame is injection-moulded and polished to resist tear and wear. The overall look, with the exposed bolts and material recalls the modern industrial style. This is softened by the padded seats and backs that are upholstered in black leather, completing the elegant, modern look. Functionality was evidently in the focus when designing the “186” series, which comprises of seven different parts that can be used in different combinations. The variety of modules enables them to fit into any space. These “Airport Chairs” are often claimed to be made by France & Son, however, in 1966 the company was sold to Poul Cadovius, thereafter known as Cado. Condition: In good vintage condition. Wear consistent with age and use. Reupholstered with black leather. Each of our items can be re-upholstered by our in-house atelier in a fabric of choice. Dimensions: 25.39 in W x 30.90 in D x 29.72 in H; Seat Height 15.35 in 64,5 cm W x 78,5 cm D x 75,5 cm H ; Seat height 39 cm About the designer: Adrian Heath (1923-) is an architect who studied at The School of Architecture in London (1951) and was subsequently employed by Hvidt & Molgaard. Adolf Relling & Frederik Kayser "Kaminstolen" for Arnestad Bruk, Norway, 1940s
Located in Utrecht, NL
Designed in 1946 by Norwegian designers, Adolf Relling & Frederik Kayser, these so called “Kaminstolen” are a distinct pair thanks to their peculiar frame. The name can be roughly translated as “fireplace or stove chair”. Besides the unique look, these chairs’ manufacturer is also noteworthy as many of the Norwegian classic furniture pieces from the 1950s and 60s first saw the light of day at the furniture factory Arnestad bruk in Vollen. The fireplace chair as an expression refers to all kinds of chairs placed in front of fireplaces, connected by a single shared characteristic: their comfort. Here, comfort refers to both the ergonomic and visual aspect. Fireplace chairs usually come in pairs and feature an upholstered body designed for relaxing. The mahogany frames are very precisely crafted, showcasing the exciting angles and forms predominantly on the arms. At the same time, while there are numerous sharp angles and corners, the chairs still exude a cosy and welcoming appearance which is a result of the smoothed edges of the arms and legs. Both Relling and Kayser were of great importance for the functionalist furniture...

Jacob Kjaer Rare Set of Ten Dining Chairs in Mahogany and Niger Leather
Located in Waalwijk, NL
Jabob Kjær for Jacob Kjær Møbelhaandværk, dining chairs, niger leather, cuban mahogany, brass rivets, Denmark, 1937. Stunning set of dining chairs by Jacob Kjær manufactured in 1937. The Danish designer Jacob Kjær created this particular model for the Paris World Fair in 1937. The strong, elegant form of the geometrical backrest with spindles, all executed in the finest Cuban mahogany is absolutely striking. Lightness is created through the slim proportions of the frame which is executed in mahogany. Together with the original cognac niger leather with admirable patina this set of dining chairs is visually striking. A nice decorative touch are the brass rivets on the side of each seating. Jacob Kjaer (1896-1957) started working as a furniture designer in 1915. From 1918-20 he studied at the Institute of Arts and Crafts Museum in Berlin, then worked in Paris and returned to Copenhagen in 1926. Here, he opened his own workshop. His highly skilled craftsmanship and designs got honored with the Hand Work Medal in 1954. These items are in good, used condition and show patina and signs of wear and use common for pieces this age. The mahogany type of this piece does not require an export license. Please note that we have a total of sixteen chairs...

'Partu' Ngumu Janka Warnti Chair 'Black' by Trent Jansen & Johnny Nargoodah
Located in Beverly Hills, CA
‘Partu’ (2020) is the Walmajarri word for ‘skin’ and is Johnny Nargoodah and Trent Jansen's latest collaborative project experimenting with this combination of disparate sensibilities. Found materials and leather are used to create awareness about Material Culture and recycling. This collection was developed in Thirroul on the New South Wales Coal Coast. Johnny and Trent came together four times over a period of 18 months, developing new methods for collaboration that could shape their incongruent knowledge, methods, and skills in designing and making into co-authored outcomes. These methods include: ‘Sketching exchange’, a process of back-and-forth sketch iteration, allowing an idea to evolve with equal input from both creators; and ‘designing by making’, a method of working with materials at full scale, to design an object as it is being made. In this approach the prototype is the sketch and both collaborators work together to carve, construct and/or manipulate material, giving the object three-dimensional form as they design and make simultaneously. Swedish Mid-Century Easy Chair with Sheepskin, Sweden 1950s
Located in Utrecht, NL
This classic easy chair was designed in the 1950s, during the most active period of what we know today as mid-century Swedish furniture design. This chair is designed in the typical Scandinavian modern style with a clean and functional look complemented by stylish elements. The chair’s simple and functional design, starting from the wooden frame’s symmetric lines to the visible joints and screws, is highly representative of the principles of Scandinavian mid-century design. The gently spread out legs are connected by stretchers to assure stability and comfort. The wooden frame appears to be firmly holding, grasping the back- and seat rest, which is even more apparent thanks to the soft, dark sheepskin upholstery. The sheepskin further highlights the round edges of the seat- and back rest, which contrasts nicely with the straight lines of the frame. The design is reminiscent of Alf Svensson’s TeVe...
