Designed by the incomparable Adrian Pearsall, this iconic Model 916-CC Captain's Chair is the epitome of functional art. Visually stunning and audacious in shape and materials used this 916-CC is a true American Modern masterpiece. Featuring new geometric patterned, heavy knit fabric, new medium-density foam for maximum comfort and a solid oak frame that is in 100% original, vintage condition this Model 916 is perhaps the best conditioned 916 chair available for sale in North America.
Born in 1925 Adrian Pearsall began designing and building furniture in 1952 with his company named 'Craft Associates' which started first in his home shop and grew to a company with more than 650 craftsmen and employees. Pearsall’s work not only helped define Mid-Century Modern but also the idea that function does not have to be sacrificed for beauty. With most furniture before the mid-century being highly ornate and lacking in utilitarian use, his work was a much welcomed change. Clean lines, organic shapes, and American walnut and oak species of wood are just a few elements often found in Pearsall’s furniture and all are on display with this magnificent armchair.

Condition Details: This architecturally striking 916-CC Captains Chair Has recently undergone a partial restoration featuring new upholstery and foam. The solid oak frame is in 100% original, vintage condition and has aged to perfection showing only minor nicks (the worst of which can be seen in the detail photos provided) but showing no deep scratches, gouges or stains whatsoever.
The seat and backrest have been recovered in a stylish geometric, heavy knit fabric and both the seat and backrest feature new medium density foam for maximum comfort.

Adrian Pearsall
Adrian Pearsall designed some of the most exuberant and expressive American chairs, sofas and other furniture of the 1950s and ’60s. For verve and vivacity of form, he surpasses even Vladimir Kagan — whose work is the emblem of swinging, sexy mid-20th century modernism. Pearsall gave his imagination free rein, and his flamboyant, eye-catching styles are icons of what has become known as “Atomic Age” design.
Pearsall studied architectural engineering at the University of Illinois before opening his Pennsylvania furniture company, Craft Associates, in 1952, and that training shows in many designs.
A Pearsall trademark, for example, is a lounge chair with an exceptionally tall, trapezoidal back, which give the pieces a skyscraper-like silhouette. Pearsall also had a talent for so-called Gondola sofas — long, low-slung pieces with upswept ends. Many of Pearsall’s sofas and chairs are supported not by legs, but on gently arced walnut skids.
Pearsall had a gift for tables, too, in particular glass-topped side tables and coffee tables with frames that have the look of an Alexander Calder stabile. As you will see from the offerings on 1stDibs, Pearsall had flair, and his work adds an attention-getting, sculptural exclamation point to any décor.

Condition Details: This exquisite desk/side chair designed by Benny Linden has recently undergone a partial restoration process that feature new upholstery. The solid teak frame is in 100% original, vintage condition and shows only minor signs of vintage wear such as light surface scratches and nicks but showing no stains, gouges or other damage whatsoever and the variegated woodgrains of the Burmese teak is absolutely mesmerizing in natural light.
The upholstery, redone in a fabulous, vintage-feeling heavy knit fabric, is in showroom condition and has never even been sat in. The cushions have been replaced with new, medium density foam for maximum comfort.
