Nathalie chair designed by Nathalie du Pasquier for Memphis Milano ca. 1990

About the Item

Nathalie chair designed by Nathalie du Pasquier for Memphis Milano, 1987 Manufactured by Memphis Milano, circa 1990 The French artist and designer Nathalie du Pasquier was one of the founding members of the Memphis Group in 1981. When The members of the Memphis group joined to manufacture and distribute their products, they went beyond a mere business. They established a business and platform for that allowed them to realize their approach to the „new“ everyday, to create objects with a whole new esthetic. Spaces and interiors were now thrilling, colorful, fun and cool. Memphis blended Popular culture & cultural history creating a new avant-garde ideal and a new feel for the new work and life environment. Nathalie Du is well-reknown for the colorful textiles she created, very unique are the patterns she designed that show strong reference to patterns used in African culture. The Nathalie chair‘s design here offers a contrast to the objects and textiles that Nathalue du Pasquier stands for: with its chromed base and black laquered seat. Also Memphis didn’t become a successful company financially it remains one of the most influential companies in the time ever since - Offering a new approach to altering the every day sphere, and in finding a new esthetic and new relations between „high and low“. This literally gets expressed in the use of materials, such as laminate, lacquer, composite wood on the one and luxury veneers, glas etc. on the other hand. This chair is manufactured by Memphis Milano in the 1990ies and comes from a private estate. It is in vintage condition appropriate to its age and shows several signs of use, especially on its rear side and on its arm rests. We will add further pictures soon !
