These stunning stacking chairs are truly iconic for Scandinavian modern design in their formalistic minimalism and use of light colours, combined with fine craftsmanship. They were designed in the 1980s by Hans J. Wegner, a pioneer in Danish design. “It was a continuous process of purification and simplification.” Hans J. Wegner answered when he was once asked how the Danish style was created. Wegner is considered as one of the most creative and innovative Danish designers that played a major role in what today is perceived as the Golden Age of Danish design. Wegner was born in Tønder as a son of a cobbler in 1914. At the age of only 14 he was apprenticed with H.F. Stahlberg in cabinetmaking and not much later he attended the Academy for Arts and Craft in Copenhagen.
