Pierre Jeanneret PJ-SI-62-A Armchair / Authentic Mid-Century Modern

About the Item

This chair is an iconic design piece. It is raw in its simplicity and it shows a slightly patinated material. Its shape is beautifully fragile and has a wonderful colour. We don't restore them too much. So we keep as much as possible of the historic traces and value. Provenance: Residential buildings in Chandigarh; private collection. Literature: Eric Touchaleaume and Gerald Moreau, "Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, The Indian Adventure", Paris, 2010, p. 571; Jacques Dworczak “Catalogue raisonné du mobilier Jeanneret Chandigarh”, Assouline 2019, p. 115,329. Authenticity: That is an authentic Mid-Century piece from Chandigarh designed by Pierre Jeanneret. Each wooden part is authentic Mid-Century, each wooden part is originally from that chair. No wooden parts got replaced. This chair got examined carefully in the condition before restoration. Then all traces and important indicators were still visible, so it's certain that it's not a fake or a partially authentic object. We guarantee the authenticity and offer it with a certificate of authenticity with an identification number. The caning is redone. About us: We are located in Switzerland, the origin of Pierre Jeanneret and Le Corbusier. Proud to offer you our huge selection of authentic mid-century pieces. The owner studied architecture at the elite university ETH Zurich. Soon after the opening of his gallery in Zurich Downtown he focused on Pierre Jeanneret, Charlotte Perriand and Le Corbusier. Finally, he's got one of the biggest experts for Chandigarh objects worldwide. You are welcome in our new showroom of 450m2 in our two glass houses, where we show a selection of raw design master pieces. We have one more chair if you're looking for a pair.

    By Pierre Jeanneret
    Located in London, GB
Authentic 'Office Chair' from the administrative buildings of Chandigarh (Ref. PJ-SI-28-B). In excellent condition - joints have been restored and cane work replaced. Pierre Jeanneret (22 March 1896 - 4 December 1967) was a Swiss architect who collaborated with his cousin, Le Corbusier, designing furniture for Le Corbusier's vast modernist complex at Chandigarh. Jeanneret remained for over 15 years as the project’s chief architect and the city remains a masterpiece of the modern vision. The pair pioneered a new aesthetic that placed function and order over embellishment—Jeanneret’s work imbuing the strict geometry of modernism with lighter materials like cane and wood. Jeanneret also collaborated with other modern masters, Charlotte Perriand on experiments in aluminium and wood, and Jean Prouve developing prefabricated housing. Literature: Catalogue Raisonné du Mobilier: Jeanneret Chandigarh, 2019. Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, The Indian Adventure...
