Superb 'Triennale' Brass Leg Daybed by Zanuso for Arflex, 1951, Original Labels

Rare and magnificent restored brass leg 'Triennale' daybed designed by Marco Zanuso for Arflex in 1951. Zanuso's 'Triennale' daybed was produced in extremely small numbers and so is an extremely rare find today;. We are lucky to have a rare, original vintage period 'ARFLEX' showroom catalog in our design library which illustrates this particularly rare Zanuso model. Please see image 2. This beautiful example has had its upholstery fully restored and is finished in high quality Danish KVADRAT 'Hallingdal 65' fabric designed by master Danish designer Nanna Ditzel, The extensive and thorough ground up restoration of the upholstery began by stripping off all the old original worn fabric, dry crumbled foam and tired sagging rubber support webbing while carefully retaining all the original 'Pirelli' metal clips (now unobtainable) that secure the rubber webbing straps until we were left with just the bare enameled steel frame. All the old dry foam was then renewed along with a completely new set of original, high quality specification, rubber support webbing by the original manufacturer 'Pirelli' . We have also renewed the old tarnished brass rings on the fabric, through which the new fabric cord secures the upholstery to the mattress and to the underlying enameled steel frame. We also managed to retain both the original ,early period, 'Arflex' embroidered fabric manufacturer's label as well as the early original 'Pirelli' labels from the old worn original fabric and have resewn them onto the new fabric to maintain the authenticity of the piece. Please see images 13-20 so you can appreciate the amount of care, time and effort involved in such a restoration. We have kept a full photographic record of the restoration process which we can provide to the buyer. We have left the six brass feet unpolished in order to maintain the original vintage appeal and authenticity of this extremely rare piece. We can of course have the brass legs polished should the buyer wish us to do so. Likewise we have kept the original pale grey enamel finish to the underlying steel frame which is still in very nice original condition with the odd user mark commensurate with originality, age and use. It is vital to maintain as many original features as possible when undertaking such a restoration. The 'Triennale' daybed is a wonderful piece and would be the perfect complement to a pair of Zanuso 'lady' or 'senior' lounge chairs. Literature: 'UNE LECON DE CONFORT', ARFLEX, 1962, page 28, please see image 2.
