About the Item

A set of eight “Cinque Stecche” chairs crafted from beechwood lacquered in deep teal (ottanio), with seats woven in cords of burgundy, brown, and coconut fiber. Produced by the historic Sanguineti brand in Chiavari, 1940s. This rare example of Chiavari chairs is defined by a series of horizontal, parallel slats forming the decorative motif from which the model takes its name: “cinque stecche.” Chiavari chairs from the first half of the 20th century are particularly valued for their ability to embody the fresh stylistic trends and aesthetic experimentation of the period. The five slats adorning the backrest lend these chairs an avant-garde character, evoking the five lines of a musical staff, as if awaiting Schönberg, the genius who revolutionized music with dodecaphonic composition. Similarly, these chairs, with their unconventional color and innovative seat weaving, defy traditional norms. The intense and refined teal finish highlights the craftsmanship, harmonizing beautifully with the hues of the woven seat. The weaving technique, inspired by ancient traditions of Italian coastal towns, has been reinterpreted with cords in burgundy and brown, enhanced by the inclusion of natural coconut fiber strands. This blend of materials creates subtle chromatic nuances, achieving striking aesthetic results. Incorporating a set of Chiavari chairs with "staff-like" backrests into an interior design scheme signals a distinctive taste: a quest for sophistication that eschews impersonal adherence to convention.
