About the Item

This piece, a labeled example of fine British furniture made circa 1880, is crafted from mahogany and cane. Designed to change its profile from a low gout stool with a foot rest to a larger ottoman for full reclining in a chair. The piece is strong and stable and works well with easy and comfort. The style is simple with a classical regency profile. A very nice detail is that the piece has an enameled makers label (see photo 9) which reads J. Sinclair, 52 Church St. , Liverpool. This maker was well known for the making of perambulators or carriages but also made furniture and metamorphic pieces and had a long-established career at the same location for many years with advertisement's listed in many Liverpool papers over many decades.
