About the Item

Elevate your interior with this exceptional and rare Danish easy chair, Model MS-6, designed by Henry Hans Schubell for Madsen & Schubell in the 1950s. This sculptural lounge chair is a true gem of mid-century Danish design—elegant, inviting, and meticulously crafted for both style and comfort. The chair features a gracefully curved, solid oak frame that supports a fully upholstered seat and back in luxurious natural sheepskin. The plush upholstery is accented with hand-applied leather buttons, adding subtle refinement and texture to its warm, organic character. The high backrest and gently reclined profile make this piece perfect for long hours of reading or relaxed lounging. About the Makers: Henry Hans Schubell, born in 1906 in Elsinore, Denmark, was an accomplished cabinetmaker who received a bronze medal for his craftsmanship upon completing his apprenticeship. In 1929, he became foreman at the esteemed cabinetmakers Winter & Winding, where he worked until 1945. In 1944, a fateful collaboration began when upholsterer Arnold Madsen approached Schubell with a model for a chair. Impressed by Schubell’s ability to translate his plaster prototype into a refined wood frame, the two formed the iconic partnership “Madsen & Schubell.” They combined upholstery innovation with traditional cabinetmaking excellence, producing a limited range of highly sought-after furniture from their workshop in Copenhagen. Condition: Excellent vintage condition; the wood frame is beautifully preserved, and the sheepskin remains soft and lustrous A harmonious blend of form and function, this chair exemplifies the understated luxury and craftsmanship that define Danish modernism. Whether placed in a living room, reading nook, or stylish studio, it brings timeless sophistication and tactile comfort to any space.
