About the Item

Beautiful, very rare original bench no. 5 by the Thonet brothers (Gebrüder Thonet) Vienna from 1859. Vienna Secession. Art Nouveau With original branded logo and one original paper label on the bottom. Made from bent beech with stripe glaze and polished. Solid curved frame. Bent wood seat ring. Seat and backrest made of wickerwork. It is a restoration object with a very good basis. The original cane is torn on the sides of the backrest. The seat is poorly repaired on the right side. The wickerwork on the backrest and seat should be replaced or repaired. The back right leg had broken off. Looks like a worm infestation had been there at this point. It was badly repaired and broke of once again while making photos. The rest of the bent beech has no signs of a former infestation of worms. The bottom seat ring has very old wormholes but is still firm. The legs were also lengthened by 5.5 cm (second to last picture). The restoration should not be a problem for a professional. The glaze on the bentwood is still very good. The bench is about 160 years old. For this age it is still in a very good condition. In terms of general condition, it was not outside or in an attic. Very clean, you can tell that it has been treated very well. Otherwise no damage can be found. I can send more photos on request. Suitable for all living areas and very decorative. There are not many of these benches left. The prices for well-preserved are between 12,000 - 15,000€. The last photo is from an original US sales poster for Thonet benches and chairs. This bank is shown in the top row in the middle. Unfortunately, due to the size, only shipping to the EU and Germany. Shipping to all other countries after consultation with a freight forwarding carrier.
