About the Item

An extremely rare collectors piece, this large 97 inch wide four-seat sculptural sofa by Vladimir Kagan for Grosfeld House was designed and produced circa 1957 in the United States, is documented in early Grosfeld House advertisements and showroom photos. We have two identical sofas available if you are seeking a pair. Priced individually. 97" wide, 28." tall and 32" deep (with curvature 38"). Arms 22" high. Recently reupholstered. Black walnut cased in aluminum for the legs and three walnut supports that extend into the floating back. The last two photos are from the Kagan Archives. These pieces were produced for a short period of time and are exceedingly rare and to our knowledge they have never been offered on the retail market in the current era. All sales records were destroyed in a fire in 1972 and only these two photos from the Archives are all the exist showing the sofa done in 1957; the Archives is unaware of any other models known to exist. Vladimir Kagan's works are highly valued by collectors and art / design investors, and his earlier works in the 1950s for Grosfeld House and Kagan-Dreyfuss are among the most sought after by collectors. The period was unique in Kagan's career when he fully expressed himself through his pieces without distortion, and pure in his vision of what furniture should be, and unlike anything else at the time - or since. Kagan's later work with the trisymmetric series and unicorn sofa and chair bases would follow years after this. This is a singular opportunity to own one of these two sofas. Ideal for a living room as much as they are for an executive office.
