About the Item

"Mingx" is an outdoor high or low stool, designed by Konstantin Grcic and manufactured by Driade. Structure in printed steel sheet and rod with protective cataphoresis treatment polyester painted in orange, light grey, bronze or black colors. Feet in ABS. Cushion seat cover in outdoor fabric. Outdoor use. DIMENSIONS: D. 14.9", W. 18.1", H. 30.7" The design of the Mingx collection has reference to the same tubular profile that also inspired the ZigZag bookcase and develops into an extensive family of elements: seats, stools and tables, establishing a harmonious mutual dialogue that also extends to the bookcase. Mingx collection consists in a rich array of family members that harmoniously interact: chairs, stools and tables. This year, Grcic extends the Mingx collection to include a new set of tables and console tables in elegant oak finish. "Mingx" as a name clearly refers to the Ming dynasty that influenced development of the Chinese culture to the extent of making China the hub of Eastern trade. It's no coincidence that the seats are inspired by the archetype of ancient Chinese, originally made of wood: a chair, an armchair and low chair with armrests and leather seat matching the colour of the metal frame. Two stool options, one with backrest and one without, diversify the set of seats. Tables with black walnut tops and stainless steel tubular frames are also presented in a projecting version, like the desk and coffee table. Four colour options are available for the leather seat: bronze, black, grey and orange. Mingx collection is also available in outdoor version with quartzite or metal tabletops, chairs upholstered with outdoor fabrics and frames with a protective electrophoresis treatment. KONSTANTIN GRCIC was born in Munich in 1965. He apprenticed as a cabinet maker at John Makepeace School in the UK from 1985-1987. In 1990 he earned a MA in Industrial Design at the Royal College of Art in London. He founded Konstantin Grcic Industrial Design (KGID) in 1991. The office specializes in various fields of design ranging from furniture and Industrial products to exhibition design and architecture related work. KGID is working for some leading names of the design industry. Many of their products have received international design awards and form part of the permanent collections of the world's most prestigious museums. Grcic defines function in human terms, combining formal strictness with considerable mental acuity and humour. Each of his products is characterized by a careful research into the history of design and architecture and his passion for technology and materials. Known for paired down-down pieces, Grcic is often called a Minimalist but the designer himself prefers to speak of simplicity.

Charlotte Perriand Mexique Stool Outdoor For Cassina

Charlotte Perriand Mexique Stool Outdoor For Cassina Cassina interprets the Mexique designer tables and stools by Charlotte Perriand in new versions, for outdoor living enjoyment at its best. With materials and finishes suited to outdoor use that maintain the same harmony and purity of line that distinguish the entire collection. Charlotte Perriand began designing the “en forme libre” series of tables in 1938 and devised Mexique in 1952 for the students’ rooms in the Maison du Mexique at the Cité Universitaire Internationale in Paris. The iconic triangular shape with bevelled edges - designed to make the best use of the space - is the unmistakable feature of the seat of the Mexique Outdoor design stool, as well; it can be paired with the high bar table from the same collection. STRUCTURE AND FOOTREST In stainless steel, matt black powder-coat finish SEAT In okoume plywood, matt lacquer finish. FEET In black plastic Charlotte Perriand began designing the “en forme libre” series of tables in 1938 and devised Mexique in 1952 for the students’ rooms in the Maison du Mexique at the Cité Universitaire Internationale in Paris. Re-edited by Cassina for the first time in 2014, it gave rise to a collection that includes several iterations, all while staying true to the original designs. Now, working closely with Pernette Perriand-Barsac, daughter and sole heir of Charlotte Perriand, Cassina introduces the Mexique tables and stools in new versions for en plein air enjoyment to the max. The iconic triangular shape with bevelled edges - originally designed to make the best use of the available space - remains the unmistakable trait in the Mexique Outdoor line, launched this year as a low table, dining table and high table with matching stool, available in two heights. New materials available in fresh, novel finishes and colours differentiate and emphasize the elegant design of this family. For all of the pieces in the series, Okoume wood, ideal for outdoor use, comes with matt lacquer finish in the following colours: marron glacé, China red, comfort, petroleum, light grey, sage green, a new shade of blue and Capri blue; the low tables also come with glossy glazed ceramic finish in the following shades: mossy green, basalt grey and light grey, while a natural teak seat is also available for the stools. Thanks to this vast and varied product range, it is possible to mix and match the various styles to create dynamic, free-form arrangements in absolute Charlotte Perriand spirit. As is true of all the works in the Cassina I Maestri Collection, each piece is authenticated by the Cassina logo, Charlotte Perriand’s signature and by a serial number that corresponds to the data on its ID card. In this context, her specific contribution focuses on interior composition, conceived as creating a new way of living, still today at the heart of contemporary lifestyle. In the sphere of twentieth century furnishing history, the advent of modernity made possible the entrepreneurial audacity of this true reformer of interior design. At the beginning of her professional career she was acclaimed by critics for her Bar under the roof, exhibited at the Salon d’Automne in 1927 and constructed entirely in nickel-plated copper and anodized aluminium. In the same year, when she was just twenty-four years old, she began a decade-long collaboration with Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret, at the famous design studios at 35, rue de Sèvres in Paris. Her presence in the Le Corbusier studio is visible in all the furnishings designed with him and with Pierre Jeanneret: and so Charlotte Perriand becomes a cornerstone in the reformation project promoted by the architect, adding a distinct dimension of humaneness to the often cold rationalism of Le Corbusier. In her creations she manages to animate the fundamental substance of daily life with new aesthetic values: in particular her talent and intuition in the discovery and use of new materials manifest themselves to their full extent. The ten-year long collaboration with Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret, and her Japanese experience, represent periods of intense creative effervescence in the life of the artist. During her long stay in the Far East (‘40-‘46), she reveals her artistic talent to the full, through a reinterpretation of the reality of life to echo both tradition and modernity. By way of example, worthy of mention are the furnishings produced using traditional bamboo processing techniques, capable of enhancing the new forms already experimented using steel-tubing.After her work as a professional, she concentrates on a series of original and balanced productions, commissioned by top-level authorities and leading companies of the calibre of Air France, and by a number of foreign organizations, authenticating the fame she had by now gained on the international scene. The distinguishing factor of Charlotte Perriand’s personality is a sincere loyalty to the principles of humane and innovative rationalism, preserved intact in her projects, on which she worked with such passion, also in readiness for their revival in the “Cassina I Maestri” collection.
