French 19th century Tulipwood, Kingwood and marble buffet, signed Krieger

About the Item

A magnificently and high quality French 19th century Louis XVI st. Tulipwood, Kingwood and Brocatelle d'Espagne marble buffet, signed Krieger. This exceptional buffet is supported by block feet integrated into the lower apron with a two-tone border. Above are the central double doors, and curved doors to each side, each composed of book matched Tulipwood veneers inside and out, and adorned with four Ormolu rosettes. A pair of fluted straight columns flank the doors and are stained in a two-toned shadowing effect, and are adorned at the top and bottom with Ormolu rosettes separating the center doors from the side doors. Inside is a single shelf of adjustable height running the entire width of the buffet. The top apron displays four drawers, each with a reeded and ribbon Ormolu pull and keyhole escutcheon. Above is the original Brocatelle d'Espagne marble top with a two-step cove edge. Maison Krieger was founded by Antoine and Nicolas Krieger in Paris in 1826. Producing and taking part in major exhibitions of the 19th century, including the Exposition Universelle and the 1849 Exposition des Produits de l'Industrie in Paris. Receiving a medal for their exhibition at the Universal Exhibitions of 1851 in London, and again in 1855, Paris. Maison Krieger created many pieces in Louis XV & Louis XVI styles, 18th century and Empire designs. Maison Krieger is recorded to have been an active client of François Linke.
