About the Item

As the field of Mid-Century Modern has evolved, its public perception has changed a lot. From the mid-1980s into the early 2000s, MCM fell out of favor with the general population almost completely. Thankfully, vast documentation survived in the form of books, brochures, and other memorabilia such as purchase papers and receipts. Still, knowledge was lost, leading to wrinkles in history that may never be ironed out. This is one of those pieces. This rare cabinet was probably designed by Milo Baughman in the 1950s. During that time, freelance designers sold designs to retailers, who would have them manufactured and distributed. It seems that this design made its way to a number of retailers, such as Glenn of California, whose examples are most commonly found. This rarer version was made by John Stuart, as shown by the paper tag on the back and the label in the interior. It features a very long, very low shape and three bays compared to the regular two. On each side is a pair of tambour doors that slide open to reveal two large shelves, and in the center, you'll find four large drawers with solid rosewood drawer-pulls. Made mostly of walnut, this classically MCM piece will provide a solid visual foundation in any space it finds itself in. Bird prop shown to demonstrate the matte sheen on the top. In very good vintage and original condition. All doors and drawers work great and operate smoothly with clean interiors.
