18th Century Italian Walnut Louis XVI Commode

About the Item

Commode hand-made in northern Italy in the late 1700s using walnut. The commode features two overlay drawers with ogee edges and beautiful, large, hand-made dovetail joints. The drawer fronts are decorated with a simple line carving around the escutcheons and pulls, all still original. On the bottom, the commode features a scalloped apron also decorated with a simple line carving. The front legs are hand-turned and original to the pice. The sides are made of chamfered inset panels framed by flat molding. Overall this is a well-built piece of furniture that follows the canons of the style but is still different because of where it was made. The drawers work well and it can, therefore, be used on a daily basis. Its color, size and patina make it a perfect piece for a space that needs some warmth added to it as well as some decoration.
