19th Century Italian Neoclassical Cherry Commode / Chest of Drawers

About the Item

Neoclassical commode hand-made in Italy in the early 1800s using cherry and pegged construction. This is a beautifully-made and fully functional two on two chest of drawers. The chest features two small inset drawers on top of two larger inset drawers. The top is made of three boards with straight edges. The sides are made of flat panels framed by square molding and the chest of drawers still sits on its original tapered feet. Although the hardware has been replaced, the drawers still show the original inlaid escutcheons. This is a very elegant and simple chest with straight lines, which give it a very modern vibe while maintaining an antique look. The drawers all open easily, which is not common for antique pieces and can, therefore, be used on a daily basis.
