Alexandre Maigret:
During the Empire, Maigret established himself as an important supplier to the Garde-Meuble . He created an ébénisterie workshop, where he created many objects to furnish the Imperial Palaces. For the next thirty years he supplied furniture for various Imperial households . The British Royal Collection also has an example of his work .
The chest is rather handsome and presents very well .
Description: The Crotch Mahogany veneer figure is a result of the slicing of the portion of a mature Mahogany tree, at the point which the first primary branches evolve from the main trunk. As the branches grow out and up, the growth rings of the tree split to create this unique figure. The most rare and intricate of mahogany veneers .
Restauration (Restoration )1815-1835
After fifteen years of ringing fanfares from one end of Europe to the other, the Napoleonic adventure ended on the plain of Waterloo, France. The Restoration was a reaction against the gaudy spectacle and monumental pomp of the Empire. It fostered an elegance, refinement and subtlety that had been obscured by Napoleonic tastes.
