19th Century French Empire Napoleon III Bureau Plat Desk

About the Item

A fine large sized flat desk otherwise referred to as a "bureau de ministre" or ministers flat desk. In mahogany and mahogany veneer flamed on all sides, beautiful ornamentation of finely chiseled and gilded bronzes such as griffons faced and palmettes. Original top framed in brass. The desk is raised on curved legs decorated with winged nymphs and ormolu sabots. At the front apron is a central wide drawer with two smaller ones on one side. Each corner is ornamented with fine rosettes. Original gilt and warm patina throughout. This French Empire or Napoleon III desk is stunning having been recently restored by an ebeniste from the reputable Ecole Boulle in Paris, France.
