About the Item

A most powerful and of the highest quality French First Empire period, Circa. 1805, "Secretaire Abattant'. The secretary is solid Cuban mahogany and fire gilded ormolu mounts with two outer columns including ormolu bases and capitals. The bottom has two doors with Empire butterfly keyhole escutcheons opening to three large drawers. The fall-front opens to reveal a forest green lined writing surface, and four interior drawers with a secret central drawer, below the mirrored back and larger drawer. At the top is a heavily decorated drawer with fanciful and highly chased ormolu mounts, including a central winged maiden writing on a scroll. All below the Portor marble top.
