Royal House Antiques Royal House Antiques is delighted to offer for sale this stunning, exceptionally rare and very fine, fully restored Edward & Roberts stamped, Chinese Chippendale desk The firm Edwards and Roberts were among the best English antique furniture cabinet makers of the second half of the eighteenth century. The company was founded in 1845 and by 1854 was trading as ‘Edwards and Roberts’, 21 Wardour Street, ‘Antique and Modern Cabinet Makers and Importers of Ancient Furniture’. They became one of the leading London cabinet makers and retailers. They produced high quality furniture, as well as good copies of the 18th and 19th century English and French pieces. There workmanship included furniture with satinwood marquetry and favoured the Georgian designs. They were known for restoring adapting older pieces of antique furniture to suit more modern needs. The quality of timber used was always the best, with fine burr walnuts, figured mahogany and lighter toned satinwood This desk is a very rare find, it is in the style of Thomas Chippendales highly coveted "Chinese Chippendale" The desk is a tour de force of style and craftsmanship, as you can see it is ornately carved from every single angle, the legs are what's called cluster columb, you have a pierced fretwork gallery rail, the detail is never ending As mentioned this is a fully restored example, the timber has been lightly washed back and sympathetically French polished, the brown calf leather, gold leaf embossed writing surface is brand new Dimensions Height:- 89cm Width:- 108.5cm Depth:- 64.5cm Legroom Height:- 61cm Width:- 44cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point, if you would like any additional or specific measurements please ask Any questions please feel free to ask before you bid.
